We strive to reveal visual evidence regarding past and present cultural erasure using the latest technologies of earth observation. Satellite surveillance can bear witness to the condition of heritage sites, providing proof to counter state denialism and other abuses that place heritage at the center of political conflict.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deterrence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-7-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9cdb16c8f070e906fe52b5c644186dc8 wp-block-paragraph\">Satellite-based monitoring has the potential to discourage state actors from intentional erasure both through the act of bearing witness, and by disseminating authoritative research to relevant national and international agencies and the public.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns chw-goals-row is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-995f960e wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accountability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-7-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-47139ffc804fcc664092459709e2f1b4 wp-block-paragraph\">In contexts of conflict and genocide, abuses to cultural heritage are often clandestine, making it difficult to hold actors accountable. Satellite-based monitoring that reveals the destruction of cultural heritage provides a forensic resource so that the public can hold responsible parties accountable for harms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Innovation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-7-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-afebf5ccd60516befc03ff1bc503e33c wp-block-paragraph\">Caucasus Heritage Watch works to develop new techniques in the use of geospatial technologies for sustained, large-scale monitoring of cultural heritage at risk.
